Planting Bamboo In-ground
When it comes to planting in-ground, a clumping bamboo species is usually best.
That said, there's better and worse ways to do it.
Preparation
The soil will need to drain freely. If you're not sure, check.
Poor drainage will forever make life difficult for your bamboo.
Install barrier (more on barrier below) and backfill firmly to hold it in place.
Try not to disturb the soil under your bamboo.
Planting
Keep the rootball moist prior to planting.
Gently remove the plant from it's container.
No need to tease out or trim the roots.
Position the bamboo to best show it off.
Backfill with friable soil.
Water in thoroughly.
Put a layer of mulch over the top.
Water in with a seaweed tonic.
Rhizome Barrier
We use High-density polyethylene sheet for it's flexibility and longevity.
Barrier should be 400mm deep for small to medium size species, 600mm for large
