Bamboo Maintenance
Thinning and Trimming
To keep your bamboo ‘under management’ there’s just a little bit to do.
You can tend to your bamboo as often as you wish.
Remove the odd culm here, cut back a branch there …
engage in an ongoing battle over Summer …
Or, do it once, each year, sometime in autumn/winter.
When new shoots have dropped their sheaths,
cut out any dead, old or ugly culms, at ground level.
We call it Thinning.
Then, if the height really needs reducing, we’re Trimming.
Cut shoots at the node, and hedge the branches and leaves.
For neatness, run the hedger again at the end of Spring.
